House or Home?

11/10/2018 Posted by Sharon Sutton Blog

Is your house a home? … or just a house?

Do you remember the day you moved into your new house? Hopefully it was a happy day and you’ve had a happy life living there. Sometimes however things change and your ‘home’ becomes just a ‘house’. This can be for a variety of reasons, both practical and bizarre. For example, imagine feral chickens and cockerels in the next-door field causing recurrent 3 AM wake ups! This becomes old fast. Or it could be your neighbour stood at the bottom of the drive shaking a stick at you for no apparent reason. It sounds far-fetched I know but those are 2 true stories, and not linked(!).

Equally for all sorts of more mundane reasons, like ‘the stairs are a potential deathtrap’ or ‘the garden is just too big now’, people have been known to fall out of love with their home so it becomes just a house and inadvertently you feel trapped because you don’t know how you’re going to transition and have a home again.

Sometimes just having a conversation with a trusted friend can help you see the bricks from the mortar or the wood from the trees. And it can be as simple as removing the cockerels or the neighbour moves!

Seriously though you might just need to think about moving to another house that has a better chance of becoming your home. These major decisions need serious financial and emotional consideration and taking into account all of the numbers. Answers to the potentially really expensive questions. That’s what we do.

  • Time was taken to meet with both my wife and I, we were able to picture what our lives ahead could look like. It was a bit like a time machine. We were able to make decisions about our future with clarity and future.
