Managing your investments

Keeping it simple and appropriate

We advise our clients to invest through third party Discretionary Investment (Portfolio) Managers who are well researched and carefully chosen by us and whose performance, service and cost we have independently monitored on a quarterly basis.

Our due diligence process is thorough and rigid. Our Discretionary Investment Manager (DIM) suppliers are extremely important to us. It’s only through them that we are able to achieve the right outcomes for you. As a Thornton client you will have your own Chartered Financial Planner and your own dedicated Discretionary Investment Manager, both of whom you will know well. Discretionary investment management can only be offered by individuals who have extensive experience in the investment industry and who possess the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and / or the Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) designations, being current paid up members of their Professional Bodies.

The return you hope to achieve from your investment is, to a large extent, determined by the risk that you choose to take. Risk is an unavoidable component of investing in stock market linked investments. Before proceeding you should accept and agree that your investment may go down as well as up. Our process involves assessing your attitude to risk so that you only take the amount of risk you need to take to achieve your goals.

Or, if you are just starting out……guidance and financial capability education

We believe everyone should have a financial plan with clear objectives about lifestyle and goals. We also know you may not be ready to embark on this process yet, but we think everyone deserves some guidance to get on the right path to success. Therefore as part of our undertaking as paid up members of the Personal Finance Society we commit to doing some pro-bono work.  If you have a group of friends or belong to some sort of club or voluntary organisation, where you know others may be interested in some education on financial capability, please get in touch and we’ll see if we can help.
